Shu-Te University received two gold and silver honor awards at the 2022 DAVINCI

International Innovation and Invention Expo 111.8.12

[Kaohsiung News] The Department of Product Design won again with two gold medals and
a silver medal at the 2022 DAVINCI International Innovation and Invention Expo in the
United States of America. The two gold medal designs are "Folding chair with changing
purpose" and "Survival Key", and the silver honor design is "Remind Mask".

The gold medalist design "Folding Chair with Transformation" was supervised by the Head
of the Department of Product Design, Mr. Wen-Liang Chen, and was created by two alumni,
Win-Liang Yao and Xin-Fu Chuang. Most of the folding chairs on the market do not have a
desktop to place objects on and are not really suitable for young children to sit on.

The design features a convertible folding chair with a seat equipped with a large and small
chair. The small chair surface can be adjusted to lift relative to the large chair surface to
provide occupied space for adults and toddlers to sit together. The larger chair surface allows
toddlers to put their feet on it. The back of the chair is equipped with two support rods to
protect young children from falling while sitting on the chair. It can also be adjusted to a
horizontal position to become a desktop for placing objects or as a dining table for young
children. It can effectively achieve material reduction and multi-purpose functions while
reducing space occupation and making it easy for users to store and move.

The gold medal-winning work "Survival KEY" was directed by instructor Mr.Shou-Hsi Fu,
creative graduate student Wang Yu-Xuan, and three alumni, Zhang Yin-Zi, Yang Jing-Qi,
and Lin En-Han. According to the World Health Organization, about one-third of women
worldwide have experienced sexual assault and violence, and about 65% of women in the
United States have experienced street harassment, which this issue is happening around the
world. The creative "Survival Key" is a protection device that combines the function of a
whistle and covers any key, conforming to universal design principles. The shape of the key
is thin, lightweight, and short through the key ring and key interlocking. It is convenient to
travel outside and not easy to be detected.

The silver honor design "Remind Mask" is supervised by instructor Mr.Shou-Hsi Fui, the
graduate student Wang Yuxuan, and three alumni, Zhang Yin-Zi, Yang Jing-Qi, and Lin En-
Han. Air pollution can cause many hazards to the human body and has accumulated tens of
millions of infections and deaths, especially during the global pandemic. 
Wearing a face mask is a daily necessity for going out. However, many people do not know
the dirtiness of the face mask but still use it repeatedly for a long time, which may result in
inhaling more harmful substances such as dirty particles or germs, increasing the risk of
contracting diseases. The mask will gradually display a pattern on the surface with the
duration of wearing and exposure to air pollution, reminding users to replace the face mask
appropriately and improving the hygiene problems caused by excessive elimination of waste
masks or too slow updating of face masks.
