[Kaohsiung News] The Department of Visual Communication Design of Shu-Te University

2022 in Aarau, Switzerland. She won a bronze medal ranked third in the world after France
and Italy, the only first in Asia in graphic design. The Ministry of Labor will award
400,000TWD to the student for participating in the competition. More than 1,100 contestants
from 57 countries are participating WorldSkills Competition 2022, and 23 countries are
participating in the Graphic Design Technology category on October 15.

Student Lin graduated in advertising design from National Chushan Senior High School. She
developed a keen interest in art and design from a young age and has accumulated a wealth of
experience in competition during her studies. It is an incredible chance for Student Lin to
compete on a global platform for the prestige of her nation and her school, following her
senior Yu-Ching Huang. The alumna of the Department of Visual Communication, Huang
Yu-Zhen, took home the gold medal at the 44th Abu Dhabi International Skills Competition
in 2017, winning a gold medal in graphic design for Taiwan after 24 years of absence.

She expressed her gratitude to Professor Yang, Yu-Lung as her inspirational mentor. She felt
so much pressure she was on the verge of depression during the training period. Mercifully,
the varied training areas and mood swings allowed her to find relief significantly, and she
eventually learned how to relieve the pressure building up inside her bursting brain.

Student Lin still seemed like an unreal dream after the four days of competition in
Switzerland after she thought back on the long two years of intense training. She expressed
that it was a remarkable experience for her to compete against other nation's competitors and
realize how small she is to see the outstanding design from many country.

Students Lin's arduous work during the process was acknowledged by President Ching Yaw
Chen. It is simple to beat others, but it is difficult to beat yourself, he often told Lin Yu-Chi.
For Mr. Lin to share his experience and serve as an example for his younger siblings,
President Chen also persuaded the chair of the Department of Visual Communication, Mr.
Yang Zhao Fu, to make arrangements for him to speak on stage at the graduation ceremony
the following year.

Along with Lin's efforts, the department's strong competition training team also contributed
to the awards. This group includes the department chair, Yang Zhao Fu, Yang Yulong, Liu
Yichen, and the Department of Animal Games. Additionally, Chen Mei Rong and other full-
time teachers accompanied the students from the Southern Region competition, the national
tournament, the national championship, or during the selection of national players.
