Shu-Te University and the Department of Education, Division of Philippine Cebu Province establish an alliance to promote students studying in Taiwan

 

[Kaohsiung, Taiwan] Shu-Te University is again launching the “Department of Information Management-New Southbound International Student Industry-Academia Collaboration Program” with the central government’s New Southbound Policy and the demand for talents in major industries promoted by the National Development Council to provide Filipino students with multiple entry pathways.Dr. Marilyn Andales, Director of School Division Superintendent, and Vice President of Shu-Te University, Mr. Alan.D Yein, signed an alliance contract at a video conference on the 11th of June in 2022 at Region VII Central Visaya. Dr. Salustiano T. Jimenez, Superintendent of the Department of Education, witnessed the launch of a new milestone in educational cooperation and expressed his appreciation to Dr. Juliet A. Jeruta, former Superintendent of the Department of Education, for bridging the two cooperation in the six years.

Vice President Mr. Alan D. Yein expressed that Shu-Te University has formed a great relationship with the Cebu Regional Education Bureau since 2016 and visited Cebu Province in 2017. The visit planned by Dr. Marilyn Andales made a good impression on Cebu. The International Program of Industry-Academia Collaboration (IPIAC) is believed to bring great value to both sides through complementary exchanges and cooperation.

Mr. Alan D. Yein further stated that Dr. Marilyn Andales had recommended 11 local high school teachers to enter the “MA in Applied Arts and Design” program offered by the University of the Philippines Cebu in cooperation with Shu-Te University. All 11 high school teachers have completed and received their MA in Design degree, and have returned to their original positions to continue teaching.

Mar Onell Booc, a Filipino master’s student who came to Taiwan two years ago to study at the Graduate School of Applied Design, earned the first-place in graduate student this year. He is invited to share his study experience with Shu-Te University during the virtual signing ceremony. Mr. Liu Kun-Yu, Vice Director of the International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office, also explained the scholarship program and the dual enrollment for general foreign students and international students, in order to give a better understanding of what the school is offering.

Director School Division Superintendent, Dr. Marilyn Andales invited a few local high school principals to attend the virtual signing ceremony and took the opportunity to promote Taiwan’s incentives for Filipino students. She thanked Shu-Te University and Cebu Province for providing Filipino students with diverse learning opportunities and educational resources and encouraged the attending high school principals to disseminate the message to their students and encourage them to study in Taiwan.

The event was exciting news for Cebu high school students, according to Dr.Clavel Salinas, Division Senior High School Coordinator of the Cebu Department of Education.
