Students from the Department of Product Design created a humane and caring design by echoing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs)

 

[Kaohsiung News] As the pandemic is still continuing, we are even more grateful for our lives. Climate change varies constantly and despite its distance, more humanitarian care for the war. Each event has a significant impact on the evolution of Taiwan society and affects everyone’s daily lives, either directly or indirectly. To carry out caring design, it is even more vital for a designer to have the meaning and purpose of “people-oriented and kind.” Chyun-Chau Lin, a full-time faculty member of Shu-Te University of Department of Product Design, encouraged students to think differently through empathy and propose product design solutions throughout response to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in his third-year advanced industrial design course (SDGs).

Chiang Hsin-Yen and Chen Yu-Chen have developed a pill box that integrates educational activities to avoid Alzheimer’s disease. The pill box allows the elderly to operate it so that it is not kept idle and may exercise the elderly’s brain and finger flexibility.

Wu Si-Yu and Yu Hui-Zhen discovered in a literature review that most people have more self-confidence than typical when playing games as well as sports and because they are in good physical and mental health. They also developed “Yo-yo,” a motion therapy device with a throwing function that lets depression sufferers relax while exercising, alleviating and improving disease symptoms.

Huang Yu-Shan,Chen Xiang-Qi,Liu Hui-Ting created “Algae” ,a solar-powered water scavenger, to help avoid eutrophication in fish farms and waterways. A central rotating blade beats the water surface to boost oxygen, and a sensing device is mounted on both sides to detect water oxygen and temperature in the water. It is also connected to a mobile app, allowing the inspector to control and record values remotely.

Due to the difficulty of shoppers for the visual impairments and their inability to comprehend product information, as well as the fact that most manufacturers do not label their products with Braille.Chen Xiang-Qi, Tseng Hui-He Proposed “Blind Shopping,” an intelligent shopping aid that allows the visually impaired to know product content information by scanning the code and speaking when purchasing products.

Wang Mei-Zhen,Lin Yi-Syuan,Zhang En-Ci revealed that due to their pregnant bellies and weight, pregnant women have difficulty squatting when using the toilet and commonly experience pain after giving birth. They designed a portable folding flush that can minimize the discomfort of skin contact and enable pregnant women to clean the toilet more smoothly, and also the clever wipe stick design “Clear,” which can reduce the number of squatting after the user goes to the toilet.

The “CLASP/Cover Your Body, Relieve Your Pain” designed by Yu Jie-Chen and Hsiao Chu Chang, is made of soft fabric with a sensual function that fits the shape of the body and is accompanied by an airbag undershirt that can shrink and wrap around the body, allowing patients to feel warm and embraced even if they do not want to be approached during depression or bipolar disorder.

“TABUGO” in bright orange color is designed by Huang Wen-Qin, Zhuang Tiing-An, and Huang Hui-Chi for the elderly. The pedal is equipped with massage point foot pads that can synchronize acupressure points while stepping and stretching the upper limbs; the work can also be adjusted to lean against the wall, providing users with stretching and stretching; the pedal has a constant temperature function that can promote blood circulation to the soles of the feet, making the elderly feel happier and healthier.

Yeh Chien-Tzu, Li Shan-Shan, and Jiang Jia-Rong are concerned about social phenomena of electronic product growth, which has resulted in children’s early exposure to 3C products, ignoring peer interaction and early sightedness. We seek to limit the use of technological devices through physical interaction, improve interpersonal connection among peers, and increase children’s awareness of Taiwan’s humanities. “Food Memory” is one of his other works.
