[Kaohsiung News] During the late night, a light warms up the returners to return home safely. A ship docking at the port is guided by the lighthouse. The light of the dining table titillates the appetite, the bedside lamp is secure and convenient, the lamp in the living room is cohesive, the desk lamp should be able to protect the eyes as much as humane, and the religion of the light brings hope. The design of the table lamp can become a multi-functional integration or a healing ornament. Therefore, in the mid-term presentation of the sophomore course, lecturer Chyun-Chau Lin of the Department of Product Design presented a design proposal for an LED table lamp, “Homage to the Classics” in which students extracted the creativity of artworks from the famous artists, developed aesthetic shapes, and designed lighting fixtures. The presentation is designed to inspire the students and richly enhance their lifestyles.

Yu, Pin-Cnen, and Dai, Yu-Fang are inspired by the classic work “The Starry Night” by Vincent Van Gogh. They take a jumping curve as the main component of the design, using the alternation of bright white and yellow colors to present the light of the night.

Cai, Ya Ni pays homage to the Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo and applies his style of collage tailoring to the creation of table lamps. The fabric pieces are like the years, with various memories, the sweetness of love, the bitterness of losing love, and the untold sorrows, alluding to the background of their development from the product.

Peng, Guan-Hua admired the famous graphic artist Maurits Cornelis Escher. They create a geometric visual arrangement of transparent, white, and black acrylic pieces of different sizes, presenting the contrast between day and night; viewed from different angles, it is like the big and small events of life, allowing for multiple perspectives and interpretations.

Liu, Hui-Ru’s works come from the silent series of paintings by teacher Mochy in the Graffiti Kingdom, which feature the mountains and the moon. The moon shines on the deep mountain where he is, and in the silence of the night, the forest becomes lively through the moonlight, adding a veil of mystery and magic.

Yu, Jie-Chen was motivated by the artwork of Japanese contemporary artist Chiharu Shiota. They used the tangled sense of space and fine lines as elements to express the feeling of space with the staggered red wooden frames. The red lines represent

Jiang, Jhao -Rong, and Xiang, Zhang-Hao do homage to the great 20th Century artist Salvador Dali, who is also known as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro as the art tenors of Spanish art, expressing the feeling of a dream in surrealism from their products.

The idea of Zhang, Cai- Qin’s work comes from the movie “Till We Meet Again” by novelist and filmmaker Giddens Ko. The moon is presented as the matchmaker, and the heart refers to the couple who are in love; the red line at the bottom refers to the marriage, and a small couple is hidden inside the heart, which can only be viewed when the table lamp is on, and only the exterior can be seen after the lamp is off.

The design for the work of Hsiao ,Chu-Chang is based on the popular character DOB by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, the creator of the “Superflat” art movement. The bright colors and cartoons make the artwork look like three eyeballs, but at the bottom it looks like a melted ice cream, as many things can’t be seen from one side, so they named it Ice or eye.

The concept of  Ye,Ding-Xuan’s design is derived from the painting, sculptor, potter, printmaker and representative of surrealism, Joan Miro, as an homage. The design concept of the work comes from the women, birds and stars in the work of Miro, taking the characteristics of the master’s works to provoke deeper associations and to feel the intensity of his style.

The final products of their mid-term presentation will be exhibited in the Department of Product Design’s window displays.
