The opening day of the Department of Visual Communication brings international students to walk the spring fun of the Sugar Industry Culture Park in Qiautou 111.2.14

[Kaohsiung News] Visual communication not only needs basic skills but should be attentive to the artistic and humanistic aspects of the environment as well. Through visual communication, finding your design inspiration might have the chance to run a successful business. A group of international students from the Department of Visual Communication who could not return to their country for the Chinese New Year due to the COVID-19 pandemic will stay on campus during the winter break to improve their professionalism and assist in the preparation of special laboratories. The whole spring trip is led by the founder of “Qiaotou Sugar Refinery Artist Village” and “Melo Moon. Sugar”. Mr. Chiang Yao-Hsien and Ms. Shang personally guided the tour.

Qiaotou Sugar Industry Cultural Park is the first modern mechanical sugar factory in Taiwan and was the setting for the best drama film “The Bold, the Corrupt, and the Beautiful” in the Golden Horse Awards. A factory is free from light hazards, and the white house looks like a pile of white sugar under the moonlight, hence the name “white sugar under the moonlight”, where Taiwan is the only country certified for art and ecology.

Mr. Chiang and Ms. Shang suggested that the Department of Visual Communication could extend the teaching area of the factory. It will let the students out of their comfort zone to learn more about community building, art, and humanities to broaden their horizons and scope of the study.

Mr.Yang, Chao-Fu, the chair of the Department of Visual Communication mentioned that students from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and China are currently studying and researching together in the professional field of visual communication design. The department will soon set up a multimedia lab, linear video editing lab, an animation production lab, a drawing creation lab, and a graffiti creation experiment factory. This is to meet the needs of designers with diverse skills in future design work or to provide multifunctional design services in individual design studios.
