[Kaoshiung News] “I began playing Crazy Racing Kart Rider in Kindergarten…”, said Senior Chen Yao Yu, Department of Marketing Management of Shu-Te University, showing up the love for Racing Kart makes his eyes and smiles lit up. Yao Yu and his four teammates received first place at the Crazy Racing Kart Rider Asian Champion Cup on the 6th of December, with the prize of 200 thousand TWD.

Student Chen Yao Yu is proficient in playing a racing kart video game, but what the most surprising to us he owns a Korean interpreter license. How can he be capable of studying, working part-time, playing video games, and spending time to improve the Korean language as well?

In a certain year, a man from the Department of Fine Art met a Korean girl who was studying Mandarin at the National Taiwan Normal University Language Centre. They fell in love and formed a Taiwan-Korean Interracial Marriage, and gave birth to Chen Yao Yu.

As a biracial child, his mother communicates with him in Korean at home, hoping that his child will interact freely with their Korean relatives in the future. They sent Yao Yu to study at Kaohsiung Korea School from kindergarten until junior high school. Her mother being his Korean tutor teaches him the reading of Korean characters. Chen’s father also urged him back to the Adult Korean class offered by the Korean Overseas Chinese School to improve Korean and prepare for study abroad in the future.

Chen Yao Yu assisted in the translations of Chinese and Korean when he was studying at Kaohsiung St.Paul High School, so he was courageous and calm in all his directions. He also learned to communicate tacitly with his teammates while playing video games. Although the family financial condition is well, he still feels that he should work part-time, also because he loves karting games a lot, it allows him to learn time management so as not to neglect his studies.

As the mentor of Chen Yao Yu, He Yan Yin, said that Chen’s personality is independent, he will invest his own time to prepare for his interests. Because his family background is Korean, he is relatively keen on the development and information of Korean e-sports. He is quite confident in his abilities to translate or interpret Chinese and Korean. Chen is a young man with a sense of responsibility and self-control.
